In response to BestGirlBetty’s post, I went looking for the original video for “Don’t Change.” Because everything exists on the internet, I eventually found the video where the rest of the band leaves Jon Farriss in a warehouse like a bunch of assholes. Before I did, I came across the video seen here. I didn’t want to like it. It’s not the story I would have told. But I like that the Farris Brothers treated this track with enough reverence that they decided to cover it themselves, without inviting someone else into the track (as they did with many of the other tunes on 2010’s Orignal Sin).
This track feels right, even if it feels like there’s something missing. That missing element is Hutchence, obviously. But it feels like they’ve lit a memorial candle and are singing to him, as opposed to singing without him. For that, I respect it.
